PLATINUM Success at the NCBF Regionals!

On Sunday 22nd November 2009, the Burton Borough Big Band, Concert Band and Junior Wind Band competed at the NCBF Regional round held at the Great Sankey High School in Warrington. 86 students from the school took part in the competition, and for several of the students playing in the Junior Wind Band, it was the first time they had played infront of an audience, let alone in a competition.

After weeks of rehearsal, all three bands played fantastically well and to our delight each achieved the newly introduced Platinum Award.

This success adds to the bands growing number of awards and means they will now perform at the NCBF Finals, held in Bimingham in April 2010.

National Concert Band Festival Finals

On Saturday 18th April 2009, 75 students took part in this year's National Concert Band Festival Finals in Cardiff. The bands were fantastic again and came away with 2 Gold and one Silver award.

The students were brilliant and also gave up a lot of their holiday to rehearse.

Story teller of the Year – Saturday 7th March

This is a competition held in Birmingham annually for young people aged 15 to 18. As in previous years we had 2 entries. Two pupils entered the solo section this year, at the last minute.

David, who was highly commended last year, performed a Norse Legend which was well received by the audience and many professional storytellers. Although he didn’t win this year he was commended for his performance and intends to enter again next year.

Alex, despite only having two weeks to find a story and perform it, was also commended and received good feedback. He said he enjoyed the experience and would also consider entering again next year.

We owe thanks to Amy Douglas, professional storyteller, for her assistance and encouragement and Danny Willams, Head of Drama, for advising them on their performance.

This was an enjoyable, but long day out, with the pupils who committed to give up their free time to represent the school. All entrants received a goodie bag and a book token each.
