PERSONAL SOCIAL HEALTH EDUCATION, CITIZENSHIP AND CAREERS
All students will also take a course in Personal Social Health Education and Citizenship for one lesson per fortnight. The course, which includes Careers education, will address issues relevant to all students and help them take their place in the adult world as responsible and informed citizens.
The content of the course covers issues such as:
Personal Organisation and Study Skills
Environmental Issues, including local, national and global
Health, including alcohol and drug abuse
Relationships and Sex Education
The Law, relating to 14-18 year olds
Cultural, Moral and Spiritual Issues
First Aid
Careers
How local/national government functions
Citizenship
Work-related learning
Care of others
Finance
As part of the Careers programme all students take part in a two weeks work experience during the Summer Term of year 10. Pupils will spend time in their PSHE lessons preparing and evaluating this experience.
At the beginning of year 11 they are invited to an evening careers convention (Futures) where the Further Education sector and training providers are invited in to promote the opportunities at their establishments.
The Connexions for Youth will also provide support during year 11 for groups and individuals, with interviews, information and guidance as required.
