The specification focuses on child development from conception to the age of five.
Students will develop knowledge, understanding and skills in relation to the roles & responsibilities of the family, pre-conception, conception, pregnancy, birth and post-natal factors, diet & health in relation to young babies & children, stages & conditions of development and support available to the child & family.
Students will complete three SHORT TASKS to demonstrate different practical & investigative skills & knowledge. These form 30% of the total GCSE marks.
Students will also complete one CHILD STUDY TASK (of a child aged 0-5 years) which will assess a variety of skills. This forms 30% of the total GCSE marks.
In a WRITTEN EXAMINATION of 1 hour 30 minutes students will be required to answer questions which cover all aspects of the specification content. This forms 40% of the total GCSE marks.
Students who gain grades D-G will have achieved an award at Foundation Level 1.
Students who gain A* to C will have achieved an award at Intermediate Level 2.
