A Brief outline of the Subject Content:

What is a First Diploma?

A BTEC First Diploma is a practical, work related course. You learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. It introduces students to the employment area that they might be interested in going into and provides a good basis to go on to a more advanced work-related qualification.

The BTEC First in Sport builds on learning from Key Stage 3, for those that may wish to explore or undertake a vocational route throughout KS4. It prepares young people for careers in the sports sector. It also provides opportunities for learners to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal qualities and attitudes essential for successful performance in working life.

The course consists of two core units plus four specialist units that provide for a combined total of 360 guide learning hours for the completed qualification.

ASSESSMENT:

All units are assessed and graded and an overall grade for the qualification is awarded. There is no formal exam at the end of the course. The course is assessed on the evidence provided by you, the student. Evidence consists of work you produce in the form of assignments and projects in which you show you have learned the range of skills set down by BTEC. Each unit is graded at pass, merit and distinction. For each vocational area, the first unit is externally assessed by examination. All other units are assessed internally using the evidence the student produces.
