Years 10 and 11 pupils are taught in ability-based sets following courses in line with Higher and Foundation Levels of GCSE. Each student is placed in a set at the beginning of Year 10 according to his or her progress shown during Year 9 and their performance in the centre marked KS3 SATs examinations.
The pupils take an examination based on the OCR Linear Mathematics Syllabus. This requires pupils to take two papers during May and June in Year 11. We are currently in the process of completing a number of Pilot Examinations run by OCR incorporating Functional Skills, this has given the department a head start in understanding how current changes in 14-19 Mathematics content is to be expressed.
