At Burton Borough we believe Geography should be:
We enable our pupils to gain a wider understanding of the world around them through a variety of pupil centred activities. These, range from fieldtrips, projects and international exchanges to decision making exercises, role plays and workshops.
So what is Geography all about?
More about Geography at Burton Borough:
The Geography Department is made up of four dedicated teachers and a teaching assistant. We are also supported by several learning support assistants.
We are based in the Humanities Block and all classrooms have their own interactive whiteboard and computer. The other classrooms have a lap-top and are close to ICT facilities.
Pupils are taught using an extensive range of current commercial and home produced resources, which pupils can relate to easily.
Literacy, Numeracy, Citizenship, ICT and Education for Sustainable Development are all incorporated into our schemes of work.
Besides an exciting and challenging range of classroom based activities, pupils from each year group are able to participate in fieldwork in the school grounds, Newport and further a-field.
Guest-speakers, workshops and exchanges are often organised to bring the world to our doorstep.
Pupils are taught in mixed ability groups in Key Stage 3 and GCSE.
Pupils achieve excellent results in Geography. This year 76% of boys and girls gained an A*- C grade at GCSE. 100% of pupils passed their GCSE Geography. Many candidates go on to study Geography at 'A' Level and then degree level.
