The Burton Borough School obtained Specialist Arts College Status in September 2004. Our specialist subject areas are Art and Design, Dance, Drama and Music.
As a Specialist Arts College, we aim to improve the learning experience of every child who is educated with us by offering them better facilities and improving access to opportunities to see Arts events and experiences. Additional funding enables us to provide workshops and classes led by professional artists, dancers, actors and musicians and to invest in equipment and resources around the school.
Beyond the benefits to the pupils at Burton Borough, we are also able to offer increased Arts opportunities to the local community and our partner Schools. We offer a range of Arts College events and projects including shows and concerts, workshops and courses. We are also able to offer the use of our facilities to the community.
Ours primary focuses as an Arts College are:
We want to increase the access that pupils and the wider community have to high quality provision within the Arts.
We want to share the benefits of improved facilities and our expertise with other schools and the community at large.
We recognise that the Arts are a great way to break down cultural, economic and ability barriers which exist. We want our arts college to benefit everyone and include those who might otherwise not have access to the Arts.
In Summer 2008, Arts Council England awarded us Artsmark Gold- which recognised the high level of provision of the Arts around the whole school.
We are very proud of both our Arts College and Gold Artsmark Status and will continue towards all our aims.
