Burton Borough is officially a Good School
I am pleased to inform you that we have now received the report following our OFSTED inspection that took place on 5th and 6th of February. Burton Borough has improved rapidly during the last few years, with exam results increasing significantly faster than the national average (54% in 2009 to 69% in 2013 for 5+ A*-C including English and Maths). This progress was recognised by OFSTED who have graded the school as “Good”.
Amongst the comments in the report are that:-
• Teaching is good. Lessons provide engaging and interesting activities that extend students’ learning.
• Students are keen to learn, and they behave well
• The Leadership Team has relentlessly prioritised the raising of standards
• Students’ good achievement is a result of effective teaching and high quality care, support and guidance.
• The large majority of parents and carers feel the school deals effectively with bullying
• The school is continually seeking improvements.
I am thrilled by this report. I believe it is fair, and recognises the improvements that have taken place in the last few years. In addition to the report itself, the Inspectors gave us considerable verbal feedback which was also extremely positive. I would like to thank all the staff, students, parents and all those in our community whose hard work and support has led to this outcome. We will not, however, stop here. We will use our current momentum to help our drive to be an outstanding school at our next inspection.

Following the recent issues with regard to the quality of food in school meals our catering provider Aspens has issued this statement –
Aspens can confirm that we do not use any meat or meat-based products from any of the suppliers associated with the ongoing FSA investigation. We do not buy in ‘ready meals’ of any type, preferring to cook our own dishes from fresh ingredients.
We obtain quality meat from reputable suppliers and we ensure that the highest standards are maintained in line with the EFSIS and BRC accreditation process. We have written statements from all of our meat suppliers confirming quality and provenance of their products and we have confidence in our management of our supply chain.
We would like to reassure our clients and our customers that we operate a high quality catering service. We do not practice or support ‘cheapest price’ procurement and will continue to use quality, reputable suppliers to produce ‘home’ cooked dishes from fresh ingredients.
If you have any queries regarding catering please contact Sarah McElduff, Business Manager at school or email sarah.mcelduff@taw.org.uk or follow the link to the Aspens website site http://www.aspens-services.co.uk/burton.htm
